Whites Beach in Maine
dot

October 5, 2005

Our first couple of days here in Maine were spent mostly visiting with Cricket's mother, uncle, and other relatives. The weather was perfect, sunny and cool! A big change from Florida. As I said previously, we were staying nearby at the Whites Beach Campground. At this time of year, there were not many others camping out. The lake was closed for swimming. It was too cold anyhow. Jake was the only one who jumped into the water!

While there, we visited some of the surrounding areas, including Booth Bay Harbor. As you can see from the photos, it was really foggy! During our entire stay, the coastline was foggy so we decided to skip Acadia National Park. Instead we just drove around nearby towns visiting some of the places Cricket used to hang out while growing up here.

On our last day here, Crickets uncle had purchased 12 lobsters and a peck of clams right off the boat for just $100. That afternoon, they tried boiling them in a huge pot over our small portable gas grille. However, the grille wasn't made for such a large pot and couldn't get hot enough. After a while they decided to take it inside the RV cooking the lobsters and clams separately on the stove. That did the trick and everyone was soon eating. Everyone but me that is. I don't like lobster or clams. After they went indoors to cook it, I threw a hamburger on the grille. Much better!

Well, its time to really go exploring Maine and do some hiking. Tomorrow we drive up north to Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park. It is the highest point in Maine and the northern end to the Appalachian Trail. Until my next update enjoys some more photos from around the Lisbon-Lewiston areas.
